Life Fitness X5 Cross-Trainer Elliptical - Exercise and fitness equipment reviews and ratingsLife Fitness X5 Cross-Trainer Elliptical - Exercise and fitness equipment reviews and ratingsOnly a few months after a collection of Life Fitness products were honored with FindTheBest.com's 2011 “Best Of” Awards, two new consoles for the cardio equipment came to market. In an effort to make the best even better, Life Fitness introduced the Track and Go consoles. These two console options are available on the X5 and X8 Elliptical Cross-Trainers, which were featured in the awards, as well as several of our treadmills and Lifecycle exercise bikes.

One of the coolest features on these consoles is the addition of the energy saver. Forty percent of a product’s lifetime energy consumption for typical consumer electronics occurs when the item is not even being used. Surprising…and costly. At Life Fitness, we call these “Energy Vampires”, because they suck energy without you knowing. The energy saver feature on the new Life Fitness consumer line of products reduces the energy consumption of your machine when in standby mode, by up to 90 percent. In 2013, energy saving components will be standard in Europe, and Life Fitness has been including this feature on all new home products since 2010.

I’m back at Life Fitness. Walking into the Franklin Park, Ill. facility a few months ago after being away for almost five years brought back a flood of memories. One memory stands out that involves the first time I walked through those same doors about 16 years ago.

I was working for another fitness equipment manufacturer, leading the strategy and development of our strength training products.  Like today, the fitness industry was very competitive, but then, companies either specialized in cardio or strength machines.  We were leaders in the strength category and trying to gain some momentum in the cardio market. Life Fitness was the leader in cardio, based on the Lifecycle exercise bike and a high performance treadmill, but also offered a computerized strength product called Lifecircuit, and had just purchased a small strength company in California. The landscape for fitness equipment manufacturers was going to change.

In introducing more than 50 new products this year, Life Fitness expected the IHRSA convention to be ground-breaking, but the buzz this year’s show created was unprecedented.

Our Fitness Forward line of products, which include the Synrgy360, Lifecycle GX group cycling bike, and Lifescape entertainment options, drew national media attention. Yahoo News reported that the Lifecycle GX was the future of indoor cycling.
