Witchita Senior Awarded First Hammer Strength High School Football Player of the Year

Honor Roll Student Works Harder and Longer To Be the Best On and Off the Field

SCHILLER PARK, Ill., March 5, 2009 – Referred to as one of the hardest workers and top performers his football coach, Mike Lee, has ever seen, Wichita's Andover High School senior, Alex Croitoru is determined to the be the best that he can be. Though considered small by some standards for a football player, at 5 feet, 10 inches and 158 pounds, Croitoru plays receiver, defensive back, punt and kick returner, and constantly works hard to improve his physical appearance and is a top-performer in the weight room. His daily workouts consist of intense squats, cleans, bench press and Olympic lifts. During summer practices, Croitoru puts in extra sprint workouts- - even while playing in a summer baseball schedule of over 70 games.

For his devotion and commitment to the game and his academics, Croitoru was awarded as the first Hammer Strength High School Football Player of the Year. Nominated by Coach Lee, Croitoru was hand-picked by Hammer Strength from a sizable a pool of nominees. The award honors student-athletes who demonstrate consistent dedication in four key areas: work ethic, effort, leadership and academics. He will be presented with a trophy by Hammer Strength, receive Hammer Strength gear, including a piece of Hammer Strength equipment for his school weight room, and be profiled in the March issue of American Football Monthly magazine and on the Life Fitness Web site.

"I have coached for over 20 years, and Alex Croitoru is one of the most impressive individuals I have ever met. He is an extremely hard worker, always gives his best effort, and never gives up," said Lee. "His teammates have immense respect for him, unanimously voting him team captain last season."

Croitoru over exceeds in the classroom, too. With a grade point average of 3.5, Croitoru has been on the team's player-nominated honor roll every week for the last year, and makes time for his studies even with the rigors of daily football practices. He was also nominated as a homecoming candidate last fall and gives advice to the younger players on his team.

"The successful football teams have a balance of talent, dedication and hard work. That's why we are so passionate about this award. It fits into our culture and truly emulates the Hammer Strength brand," said John Stransky, president of Life Fitness. "Alex has shown an impressive commitment to his team, coaches and classmates and is the type of student athlete that deserves such an award as Hammer Strength Football Player of the Year."

Croitoru will attend Hutchinson Community College next fall on a football scholarship
