Movies are a cultural touchstone in today’s society – creating artistic avenues that entertain and educate. But sometimes we use those on-screen adventures to get pumped up and out of our seats, and nothing motivates like a music-fueled, sweat-drenched, cliché-packed training montage. In honor of the upcoming Academy Awards, I decided to find the best fitness montages (along with their workouts) in movie history. My Mount Rushmore picks are below.
This February in Sochi, you’ll find stars, sports, and spectacle, all draped in wintry white and captured by media from around the world. Yet besides the competitive poetry that is the Games, a bigger concern emerges: just what exactly are viewers supposed to watch?
Packed planes, booked hotels and slammed seminars – it's that time of year again! This week, the Life Fitness family will convene in San Diego for IHRSA 2014, one of the largest fitness trade shows in the world. While I can’t spoil all the surprises, and trust me there are some big things in store, we're thrilled to unveil a year’s worth of forward-thinking invention and innovation.
The most poignant highlight of IHRSA 2014 was undoubtedly Augie Nieto’s BASH on March 14. The Life Fitness co-founder and creator of Augie’s Quest – an ALS research initiative – has raised almost $40 million toward finding a cure, and during BASH, the results were even more impressive. Smash Mouth kept the place rocking, Jann Carl of “Entertainment Tonight” emceed, and a total of $1.7 million was raised in a single night. That’s still not the moment everyone is talking about, however.
Every year Life Fitness accepts submissions for its Most Inspiring Story Contest through the Life Fitness Mileage Club. Each entry shares their fitness experience, how their commitment has improved their lives, and how many miles they recorded on their Life Fitness machine.
At Life Fitness, we don't just create exercise equipment — we produce an environment where employees, family and friends live for health and wellness lifestyles. One example of this commitment is through Brunswick Corporation’s (Life Fitness’ parent company) Walk This Way program, a competitive “walking contest” that encourages the employees in all five Brunswick divisions to track their steps with a pedometer and “out walk” the other divisions.
But that’s just the beginning …
At the end of every year, Life Fitness selects the Most Inspiring Story through submissions via the Life Fitness Mileage Club. Each entry shares their fitness experience, how their commitment plus Life Fitness home equipment has improved their lives, and how many miles they recorded on their equipment. We started with many entries and narrowed it down to three finalists … but it’s going to take a little help from you to decide the winner.
Read their stories below, then go to the Life Fitness Facebook page and tell us who you think should be crowned the 2013 Most Inspiring Life Fitness Mileage Club winner.
Life Fitness has always been a big supporter of Augie’s Quest and the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). So when Augie and Lynne Nieto challenged President Chris Clawson to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, he jumped at the chance to have a bucket of chilly water dumped on him.
On Oct. 17, the top 10 personal trainers in the world came to David Barton Gym in New York to compete in the 2014 Personal Trainers to Watch event.
After a day of showing their elite training skills, we are excited to announce Cristiano Arthur S. Parente of Sao Paulo, Brazil as the 2014 Personal Trainer to Watch.
The day is almost here! Over 1700 nominations came in from 43 countries and now it is time for our 10 finalists to prove who is the 2014 Personal Trainer to Watch.
After over 1700 nominations and an intensive judging process, we are happy to announce the 2014 Personal Trainers to Watch Finalists. These ten finalists from across the globe are the best of the best and we are excited to see them in action.
Imagine lacing up to run the iconic Virgin Money London Marathon, seeing the crowd scream as you pass over the Tower Bridge, and feeling the energy of the day without ever leaving your home or gym.
Life Fitness, Paofit and the Virgin Money London Marathon today announced the first ever digital marathon, allowing anyone in the world to experience running the famous race with the same course, spectators and thrills from your treadmill.
There are many reasons we don’t eat breakfast – some of us are trying to limit our calories, others are strapped for time, and others still are simply “not breakfast people.” It seems so much easier to grab a coffee and get a head start on rush hour than it does to sit down and eat a full meal. But here’s the reality – eating breakfast every morning will change how you look, how you act and how you feel.
Smell that? It’s every backyard patio, city balcony and rooftop deck firing up their grills – and getting ready for a classic Memorial Day BBQ. The question is, how do health-conscious folks indulge in a pastime known for fat-packed “lard dogs” and grease-bled burgers?
This year at the CSCCa National Conference Master Strength and Conditioning Coaches Dinner and Ceremony, Hammer Strength was proud to announce the second annual Hammer Strength All American Athletes of the Year:
Rafaelle Souza of University of Mississippi
Zach Zenner of South Dakota State University
Imagine it: Spotlights shine down as you stand at midfield. Nearly 79,000 international spectators – walls upon walls of fans – scream your name. As the network cameras roll, you remember that 700 million people will share in this single moment in time. You are in Maracanã Stadium, Brazil, and the title for the world is on the line.
March may mean Spring Break for those in school, but for the fitness industry it means IHRSA.
IHRSA 2015 will be one of the largest trade shows in the world and one that everyone in the health club and fitness industry will be talking about.
For IHRSA this year we wanted to think about more than just fitness equipment. We took inspiration from the experiences that come with exercising. The endorphins from running, the laughter of training with friends and using apps to compete against them.
Life Fitness is ready for you to “turn up” your workout.
Not only do we want you to be motivated to take your workout to the max, we want to make it easier for you to keep it going.
Pop culture – you can’t escape it when it’s here, and the minute you try to hold on, something new is in vogue. Yet many moments are defined by fads that surround it, and few more so than a trip to the gym. Today, we’ll look at four telling signs that you worked out in the 1990s, and examine the pop culture snapshots that emerge from the sweat-drenched ether.
