Jaime is a regional coordinator with the Muscular Distrophy Association, Inc.
Our Augie’s Quest staff has planned numerous fundraisers together over the past 7 years; however none are ever quite like THE BASH for Augie’s Quest – held annually at IHRSA. I woke up Friday morning to a full inbox. Most of the emails were from Augie— being the driven and motivated man that he is, he was asking for numbers.
How much did the Zumbathon raise? $500,000
How many guests are confirmed for tonight? 795
How much money have we raised going into the evening? $1,052,000
How much more do you think we can raise tonight?
Augie Nieto was diagnosed with ALS (or Lou Gehrig’s disease) in 2005, a progressive, fatal, neurodegenerative disease. As the co-founder of Life Fitness and the man many credit with shaping the fitness industry into what it has become today, he has always been focused and determined. Now, refocusing his attention towards finding a cure, Augie founded Augie’s Quest, the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s ALS research initiative, which seeks to raise funds for treatments and cures.
Augie’s Quest events were kicked off with a Zumbathon and a VIP pre-party presented by Western Athletic Clubs and Global Leisure Partners. Every year our team is blown away by the generosity of the fitness industry and the guests who make it a memorable event. Life Fitness has become a close partner to Augie’s Quest and asked us to give you a sneak peak behind the scenes of The 7th Annual BASH for Augies Quest.
Prior to the program, Augie greeted our emcee, Nancy O’Dell who has been committed to helping since she lost her mother to the disease a few years back. Nancy is warm and personal, and, as Augie says, she has great legs. Augie and Lynne were so proud of their daughter Danielle who made all of the centerpieces for the evening. They looked great. As guests arrived, Augie and Lynne greeted them and shared many hugs. It’s truly humbling to see so many people rally behind him in one fabulous event.
The evening was full of entertainment and story-telling. After an emotional surprise video Augie was in tears. And Lynne, as always, is by his side. It is awe-inspiring to see so many people who care so much about our fight against ALS. Almost 3,000 research minutes were sold and a giant check was presented to Augie and Lynne. A total of $1,617,850 was raised that night for ALS research. Augie’s Quest has now raised over $32,000,000 in just seven years. Augie calls this “our best year yet” and is excited about a very near future rid of ALS. We couldn’t do any of it without the support of companies like Life Fitness, among so many others. Thank you!
