SCHILLER PARK, Ill., March 4, 2009 – Losing his parents at a young age, Kennewick, Washington's Kamiakin high school senior, Alexx Arent, has every reason and excuse possible not to succeed. Arent did the exact opposite; he took his misfortunes and made the most out of them. He has been a three-sport athlete throughout his high school career, participating in football, wrestling and track, all the while maintaining a 3.4 grade point average. Not only is he the school's football team most valuable player and captain, Arent was also named all-conference defensive lineman this year. He plays multiple positions as a defensive tackle/defensive end, and is also a tight end on offense. He had 62 tackles last season.

For his devotion and commitment to both the game and his academics, Arent was chosen as a runner-up in the first Hammer Strength High School Football Player of the Year contest. The award honors student-athletes who demonstrate consistent dedication in four key areas: work ethic, effort, leadership and academics. He will be presented with a plaque by Hammer Strength, receive a Hammer Strength T-shirt and will be profiled on the Life Fitness Web site as well as in the March issue of American Football Monthly magazine.

"He is a well-rounded young man whom I have grown to greatly respect," said Chad Potter, football coach for Kamiakin High School. "He is truly deserving of this award."

Arent's motivation goes beyond athletics and academics. Instead of hanging out with his friends in his free time like most high school kids would, he chooses to referee on the weekends for the local kids' football program. And when time permits, he stocks shelves for his uncle's business.

"Alexx is an amazing young man who has overcome many struggles," said John Stransky, president of Life Fitness. "He clearly demonstrates the qualities and determination that this award honors."
