The challenge MINIMUM SPACE WITH MAXIMUM VALUE
Wayne County YMCA needed more room for equipment and to optimize functional training space so they took over an underutilized racquetball court. The challenge to Life Fitness was to maximize the already limited floor space while also introducing some key lower-body plate-loaded units.
The Process UTILIZING LAYOUT EXPERTS
Life Fitness approached this project by first determining what the most pressing need was given the facility’s already limited space. Then, after working with the YMCA to select specific pieces of equipment, we employed our layout design team to create a 2D layout to determine how the equipment would best fit.
Finally, we created a 2.5D to visualize how the space would ultimately look. We worked with THOR Performance Products on flooring needs as well as The Fitness Resource on delivery and installation. We helped to create a much-needed combination lower-body and functional training/performance space targeted at not only general membership in their fitness journey, but also young athletes and seniors. We solved the problems of limited programming options when it came to strength building. We utilized our decades of expertise in both outfitting clubs and supporting Ys to create a fun and competitive fitness environment.

The Solution WELLNESS EXPERIENCE
Wayne YMCA wanted to create a comprehensive wellness experience targeting a wide range of fitness wants and needs. Exciting new spaces were created, including a Hammer Strength plate-loaded and performance area, an ICG indoor cycling experience, and a converted squash court that had a pair of SYNRGY180 functional training units. The YMCA also utilized general Life Fitness cardio equipment, Insignia selectorized strength and Hammer Strength free weights.
