Facilitating Growth at the University
The University of Auckland has opened a new state-of-the-art Recreation Centre, Hiwa. As the university's student body has increased from 10,000 in 1978 to more than 46,000 today, the former recreation center became insufficient for its needs. Life Fitness / Hammer Strength are honored to collaborate with The University of Auckland to design the new Hiwa Recreation Centre, addressing these changing requirements and providing a contemporary space for students to remain active and engaged through our top-notch gym equipment, while promoting health and well-being among students, staff, and the wider community.
Facility Highlights
The 26,000 square meter facility spans over eight storeys and includes a range of amenities, including expansive cardio and weights areas, group fitness rooms, and an indoor cycling studio featuring 40 Life Fitness ICG Indoor Cycles. The strength floor alone covers over 1,000 sqm and includes a full lineup of Hammer Strength plate-loaded machines, rigs, racks, lifting platforms, Life Fitness Insignia pin-loaded equipment, and nearly 10 tonnes of free weights.
Cardio and Additional Amenities
The large cardio floor comprises over 70 pieces of Life Fitness premium SE4 cardio equipment, including 5 PowerMills, 24 treadmills, 5 Arc Trainers, 15 upright bikes, 8 elliptical trainers, and 2 recumbent bikes, making it one of the largest fit-outs in the southern hemisphere. Additional amenities include a rooftop multi-turf area, two sports halls featuring the southern hemisphere's first glass sports floor with integrated LED markings, accommodating six different sports and providing capacity for 1,500 spectators. To top it off, there is also an eight-lane, 33-meter lap pool, a dive tank, a spa and sauna, a climbing wall, and two dance studios.
