Creating accessible training spaces Designed for every user
Working closely with Life Fitness / Hammer Strength, Nottingham Trent University set out to redesign the gym with a clear goal: make fitness more accessible for every user.
Through a complete reconfiguration of the gym floor, the team was able to maximise the existing space - introducing more equipment while improving flow and usability. The new layout reflects how students and members actually train, with space to support pairs and small group workouts, ensuring no one feels restricted or crowded.
The result is a facility that feels open, intuitive, and welcoming, helping every user feel confident from their very first visit.
Enhancing the student experience Where community and wellbeing meet
Beyond physical training, the refurbished space has been designed to support student wellbeing and foster a strong sense of community.
With a focus on creating an energetic and functional environment, the gym encourages social training, connection, and consistency. Importantly, the accessible layout and thoughtfully selected equipment creates a space where students can reset, refocus, and step away from academic pressures -creating a facility that not only supports performance, but enhances the overall student experience.
Smart equipment selection Built for modern training
The equipment mix at Clifton Sports Hub has been carefully selected to cater to a wide-ranging demographic, including students, staff, and members of the local community.
Life Fitness Aspire Series cardio provides an intuitive entry point for those new to the gym, while Insignia Series selectorised strength equipment supports safe, guided training. Hammer Strength plate-loaded machines - including the Hack Squat, Glute Drive, and Linear Leg Press – alongside Smith Machine and HD Athletic NX Half Rack, deliver the performance and durability required by more experienced lifters and athletes, whilst meeting the high demand for weight training.
