When embarking on any new gym project, Places Leisure treats each one as a unique opportunity. They explore current and future trends, analyze member demands, and utilize facility design to create a bespoke blueprint that aligns with the Centre’s strategic aims and aspirations.
For the Eclipse Leisure Centre, Places Leisure collaborated closely with Life Fitness/Hammer Strength to meticulously plan the gym floor layout and equipment mix. This partnership ensured the best possible customer journey, with careful consideration given to each area of the gym and its specific objectives. Places Leisure continually innovates and challenges its thinking to engage more people, and partner collaboration is integral to this process.
Greater community engagement ACCOMMODATING A WIDE RANGE OF TRAINING NEEDS
Places Leisure aimed to create a vibrant community hub where individuals could get active in their own unique ways. Central to this vision was the gym, designed to cater to all ages and training requirements with a diverse range of equipment.
The gym features an expansive free weights area, equipped with four Hammer Strength HD Athletic NX Half Racks and platforms, an extensive range of Hammer Strength Plate-Loaded equipment, and Life Fitness Insignia Selectorised equipment, ensuring a comprehensive strength training experience. The cardio area is outfitted with a full range of products from Life Fitness’s Aspire series, including Discover SE4 consoles that offer users immersive workout experiences and entertainment options. Additionally, the indoor cycling studio boasts ICG® IC6 bikes, providing an engaging and dynamic cycling experience.

Eclipse Leisure Centre stands as the largest wet and dry Passivhaus leisure centre in the world—a pioneering concept that embraces a whole-building approach to construction. This method combines high-quality construction with stringent quality assurances to deliver sustainable facilities.
Recognizing that buildings are significant contributors to carbon emissions, Places Leisure leveraged the Passivhaus concept to create a facility that operates at 70% less energy consumption compared to traditional leisure centres. This innovative approach not only supports the operator’s move towards net zero but also ensures an exceptional member experience.

IC6 Indoor Cycle
The IC6 Indoor Cycle utilises a powerful full-color WattRate® TFT computer, self-powered by the bike’s generator, to provide the meaningful connection of exercisers to their workout. This interaction includes data exchange between devices and the Coach By Color® intensity guide.
The WattRate® TFT Computer 2.0 was redesigned and reengineered for IC6, IC7 and IC8 Indoor Cycles. It is a robust computer that features intuitive exerciser navigation and high-speed connection. The computer has a bright, self-powered, fully integrated TFT screen and a front LED display, which simultaneously displays individual training intensity for the user and the trainer.
