The market town of Castle Donington, Leicestershire, has welcomed its first premium fitness facility, as the Workhouse Gym opened last month (Wednesday 15 March).
Comprising 8000ft² of gym floor space including a separate free weights area and dedicated functional training zone, the Workhouse Gym is equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment from premium manufacturer Cybex.
Members have access to a comprehensive range of cardio equipment including treadmills, bikes, and Arc Trainers from Cybex’s 625 series, and the SPARC, Cybex’s revolutionary resisted cardio machine with the same patented Reverse Arc Motion as the Arc Trainer and designed for use in HIIT workouts, group exercise and training zones.
The strength training offering is also extensive, with pieces from Cybex’s Big Iron, Eagle NX, Prestige and VR1 ranges. All equipment has also been custom-built to incorporate the Workhouse Gym’s brand, with customised frame and upholstery colours.
Life Fitness Powermills and Lifecycle GX Indoor Cycling Bikes have also been installed and alongside the extensive equipment provision, the gym is home to the area’s first in-built climbing wall, as well as a 2000ft² studio which will hold more than 35 group exercises classes every week.
The facility is owned by experienced fitness industry professional Mark Lole, whose vision it was to launch the Workhouse Gym, “I wanted to create a gym that Castle Donington could be proud of and a place where people feel welcomed and supported in their journey to achieve their fitness, health and wellbeing objectives.
“That might mean for some people we are their first ever experience in a gym and if it does, then we promise we’ll support them every step of the way. For other more experienced gym goers, we want the Workhouse to be their gym of choice because we have the best equipment, the best staff and the best atmosphere to train in.”
Commenting on the decision to choose Cybex, Mark said: “I’ve always worked in physically demanding roles, serving as a Royal Marine Commando for six years before becoming a firefighter and fitness instructor, so I’ve spent a lot of time in gyms and knew that I wanted to be able to offer my members the best facility to train in – and that was why I chose Cybex.
“The equipment is of the highest quality, it looks great and most importantly, has been designed to the highest standard so that anyone – from first-time gym goer to elite athlete – can feel comfortable using it and achieve the results they’re after.”
Paul Steel, Cybex UK regional manager, said: “The Workhouse Gym is the only premium fitness facility in the area and Mark and I have worked very closely on the equipment selection and gym floor layout to deliver a facility that accommodates everyone. It’s a fantastic space to train in and one that we are very proud to be associated with.”
