Featuring more than 35 pieces of premium cardiovascular and strength training equipment from Cybex, the gym had to be designed in a way that made it suitable for all levels of experience and ability. This ensured everyone in the Williams team including drivers, office workers and the pit crew could make full use of the facilities.
The gym comprises equipment from Cybex’s 700 cardio series and the new SPARC, along with the Eagle NX and Prestige VRS selectorised strength lines, Bravo Functional Trainer, Big Iron lifting platform and a range of plate loaded and free weights equipment. Also installed was a functional training rig, group exercise bikes and a range of functional training equipment.
With 16 FIA Formula One World Championships to date and 114 grand prix victories, Williams is one of the most successful teams in the history of the sport. This year the team have been continuing on from their great season in 2015, where drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa finished in fifth and sixth place respectively, leaving Williams as the third place constructor.
One of the biggest sources of pride within Williams F1 is from the pit crew, who are currently in pole-position to win the 2016 DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award, having set 9 of the top 10 fastest pit-stop times so far this season. With a best time of just 1.92 seconds, the team equalled the best pit-time ever – set by Red Bull in 2013.
The speed and precision of the pit crew helps the Williams drivers gain every millisecond they can in a sport where fine margins can make all the difference. Behind their success is the strength and conditioning training they do regularly in the Williams Cybex gym, enabling them to change all four tyres on the car in the blink of an eye.
